We the People

Popular Sovereignty: The People Are the Source of All Power
The first three words of the Constitution say everything:
We the People.
That’s not a poetic flourish. It’s the foundation.
Power does not flow from Congress, the President, or the Courts.
It flows to them — from the People.
The government has no authority except what we gave it.
This idea is called popular sovereignty.
It means the people are the true rulers,
and the Constitution is a contract they created.
That’s why:
• The Constitution starts with “We the People”
• Amendments require the people’s approval
• Government officials swear an oath to the Constitution, not to a king or president
When the people change their mind, they can change the rules.
That’s why the Constitution has amendments.
It’s not a sacred stone.
It’s a living agreement —
from the people, for the people.
“All political power is inherent in the people.”
— State Constitutions across America
The Constitution is not the beginning of power — you are.
